Souldega’s 2nd Women’s Film Festival

Riddim Rise

Souldega Presents: Riddim Rise, is a nod to the 1970s and the groups of Jamaican communities, who in the face of pervasive racism and discrimination, developed a dearth of places and communities to gather and enjoy their music and culture. During a time when many individuals have faced many exceptional hurdles, we find it essential to bring together our community to celebrate life and perseverance amidst a tumultuous political climate to let loose to the rhythms that brought a highly influential sub-culture together not long ago and continues to do so.


Roots to Rise

Does anyone feel it?! We may be in the midst of challenges, change and Internal reflections - but one thing is for sure, we are on the brink of a New Renaissance and Artists are the gatekeepers of this cultural rebirth.

Daughters of the Dust Live at Riis Beach

Julie Dash’s “Daughter’s of the Dust” is a magnificent framework and representation of transition in the dynamics of Black life, historiography, and togetherness. And as we re-emerge as a people post-lockdown, we believe revisiting this spiritual film will be healing after the collective trauma we’ve experienced.

La Conga

Souldega transported its partygoers into a night of live musical acts, live body painting, and amazing tunes at Cafe Erzulie in Brooklyn, New York.


Stoop & Hang

Stoop & Hang on June 30th, connected different artists showcasing their artwork and incorporated a lesson provided to the public on an art technique hosted by Nyasha Brown.

Refill

On Feb. 15, 2019 the Souldega Sisters were focused on spreading the message of self-love and healing to their communities, thus “Refill” was brought forth. Refill incorporated massage therapy, wine and a great showcasing of the films directed and produced by Ashleigh Alexandria and Naja Pazant.

Spellbound

October 26, 2018- Right in time for Halloween festivities, Souldega partnered with the fine women of Superfine in DUMBO to bring to the community one thrillish event. Spellbound featured live musical performances from its resident Souldega Member @official.leen and many others.


Rock Steady

August 25, 2018- Souldega, partnered with the owners of the DUMBO establishment Superfine to bring to the public an event in honor of music and of the late Aretha Franklin.

Sweet Tooth

On June 28, 2018, the Souldega ladies came together and brought forth Sweet Tooth, an outdoor event showcasing artwork from participating artists and live musical acts.

Disco Flow

May 31, 2018-Souldega’s very first event spearheaded by cofounder, singer and yoga instructor Carleen Shankle focused on bringing meditation and health and wellness to Souldega’s extended communities.
